Orchid Roots

Many orchids are killed by too much love and attention by that I mean over watering. So it is often a surprise to find an orchid, a little forgotten growing away happily with its roots making a dash for freedom out over their pot. All your lavish care, seems to hamper the orchids growth, too wet too often.

I have taken to growing some of my orchids in clear pots so I can keep an eye on their development and to stop me over watering. I acquired a Vanda, which was not looking too good, its roots had been compromised by being buried in soggy compost. I placing it into a clear pot with large bark, with plenty of air movement and without too much loss of humidity the roots soon started to regrow. With the main growth also compromised a strong side shoot developed and the orchid flowered two years later.
